북쪽바다에 물고기 한 마리가 있었는데, 그 물고기의 이름은 '곤'이다.
곤의 둘레의 치수는 몇 천 리인지 알지 못할 정도로 컸다.
그것은 변해서 새가 되는데, 그 새의 이름은 '붕'이다.
붕의 등은 몇 천리인지를 알지 못할 정도로 켰다.
붕이 가슴에 바람을 가득 넣고 날 때, 그의 양 날개는 하늘에 걸린 구름 같았다.
그 새는 바다가 움직일 때 남쪽바다로 여행하려고 마음 먹어다.
메추라기가 대붕이 나는 것을 비웃으며 말했다. "저 놈은 어디 가려고 생각하는 거야?
나는 뛰어서 위로 살며, 수십 길에 이르기 전에 숲 풀 사이에서 (자유롭게)날개를 퍼덕거린다.

There was a fish in north sea, whose name is Gon.
Gon had an enormous perimeter, reaching thousands of leagues.
It changed into a bird, named Boong.
Boong's back was so huge that no one knew how far it reached.
When Boong flew with the chest filled with wind, its wings looked like clouds hanging in the sky.
When it saw the sea move, it decided to travel to south sea.
A quail saw the Big Boong fly and laughed. "Where does it think it is going?"
I jump and fly, and before I reach hundreds of feet, I freely flutter my wings in the bush.
When that's as high as we can get, where does it think it is going?
